Derek Peveto was arrested Monday in Jefferson County and charged with sexual assault after allegations surfaced of an inappropriate relationship between him and a student at Hardin-Jefferson High School. Peveto had been a coach with the Hawks for several seasons.
Peveto, 46, had just received the biggest break of his professional career, a job as defensive coordinator and head track coach at Jasper High School under new Athletic Director Toby Foreman. But Jasper cut all ties with Peveto after the arrest.
He will be arraigned Tuesday morning.
