John G. Dickerson, 87, of Orange, Texas peacefully passed away on September 23rd 2021. He was born July 24th, 1934.
John is loved by his family and is terribly missed. He was a good man with honorable ethics. A dear husband of 66 years to Bonnie and worthy provider for his family.
John was a self taught type of man. He had many interests over the years most of which he learned about and taught himself through research and reading. Some of the hobbies he had over the years were tennis, chess, golf, gardening, photography, computers and fishing and oh how he loved fishing! From his wheelchair he learned and participated in action competition pistol shooting where he made many lifelong friends. In his later years he loved mowing, taking care of the yard and hanging out with his dogs Jack, Ace and Blackjack.
John and wife Bonnie did some extensive rv travel throughout the United States with Colorado being their favorite place.
Dad and I, Danya, spent a lot of time together in the last few months when he became ill. I will always treasure those times as he was always in good humor and tried to make the best of things being a real cut-up with the doctors, nurses and myself.
He retired from E.I. DuPont in Orange after 42 years. Val, a beloved friend and co-worker to dad, wrote the following: “John Dickerson was a smart, quick-witted, fun-loving guy. At DuPont he was respected for his work ethic and extensive knowledge about the plant. Coworkers called on John for his tutelage, knowledge and unfailing memory to resolve their issues of the day with his experiences of decades past. He was intimidating to young engineers initially. But most, after meeting with him and receiving direction or answers, punctuated with dash of humor left with a sense of confidence. They would return again and again. Sometimes for knowledge; other times just for a break and some laughter. He was a man of his word. He would always say, “When we quit laughing and having fun here, I’m leaving.” And, he did. I’m fairly confident that whomever he’s with right now, they’re laughing.”
John was preceded in death by his youngest son David C. Dickerson, parents Jesse and Willie J. Dickerson and fur babies Jack and Ace.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Mike, daughter Danya Monceaux and husband Faron, brother Paul Dickerson and wife Jeri, grandchildren Jean and Clay Dickerson; great grandchildren Katelyn, Devin and Cruz Dickerson, longtime family friend Cliff Moore and faithful dog Blackjack.
His wishes were to be cremated and that has been entrusted to Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. No services have been planned at this time.
