
Theft Complaint Leads to Heroin, Meth Arrest
A 34-year-old Mauriceville woman stopped because of a complaint of stealing at a Dollar general store is facing charges of possession of heroin and methamphetamine.
Orange police had a 911 call about a theft in progress at 12:33 p.m. Wednesday at the Dollar General, 3024 16th Street.
The officer reported employees pointed out a woman driving a 2004 Acura leaving. He tried to flag the woman down, but she would not stop. He then follower her in the patrol northward on 16th Street until she stopped.
During the stop for the suspected theft, the officer learned the woman had no bond arrest warrants from Hardin County for evading arrest, along with bail jumping and failure to appear for court.
During the search of the vehicle and the woman, the officer reported finding three tiny baggies with brown heroin, two tiny baggies of meth, a syringe, and other drug paraphernalia.
Kellie Marie Wofford was arrested on the warrants and the charges. She is currently in the Orange County Jail.
AT&T Wiring Boxes Stolen at Apartment Complex
Eighteen metal AT&T boxes with wiring were stolen from outside the apartment units at International Apartments, 4750 Meeks Drive. Orange police report the boxes are valued at $500 each for a total of $9,000. The cost of new boxes and installation will cost $30,000.
Officers went to the compelx at 9:30 Wednesday morning. An At&T employee had gone to the complex after a complaint a phone was not working. He discovered the outside terminals were missing.
The boxes are described as being green metal about three inches by 12 inches. The boxes contain wiring to deliver services to units of apartments. The AT&T employee said every box outside the 18 units at the complex were missing.
Season Thefts Begin
Orange police during the weekend had calls of a package stolen from a house in Little Cypress and a wallet grabbing at a convenience store near Roselawn.
Police went to the 1200 block of Beagle Road off FM 1130 about 10:30 a.m. Saturday because a delivered package had been stolen from outside the door. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the package had been taken when it was dark. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video of the theft.
On Sunday morning about 8:30, police went to the Shell Station at 3118 Edgar Brown Drive. A woman holding her wallet in her right hand was leaving the store. A man on a bicycle came up to her and asked her to give him the wallet. Police said she refused. The man grabbed her arm and forefully took the wallet. He then rode the bike northbound on Bluebonnet.
A laptop computer was reported stolen Wednesday from EZ Pawn, 1100 16th Street. A store employee told police the laptop was missing from a display. After reviewing surveillance video, store personnel say a woman taking the computer, which is an ASIS model valued at $600.
