Our area teams are putting together solid seasons as we get into the second half of the schedule.
The LCM Bears moved to 2-0 in district with a 49-13 win over Hardin-Jefferson on Pink Out/Senior Night. The Hawks scored first on a 50 yd. run but the Bears responded with four TD’s to take a 28-7 lead at half. QB Braylon Lewis had an efficient day going 6-7 for 132 yds. and three TD’s all in the first half. He hit Evan Worster for 47, Jonah Fuller for 29, and Khayden Reed for 25 yds. J’Lynn Morris had another solid game carrying the ball 21 times for 139 yds. and a score. Fuller had 100 yds. and two rushing scores as the Bears rolled up 470 yds. to 235 for the Hawks. The defense forced three turnovers and a blocked punt. Kaden Boatman and Reed had picks. The Bears (3-2) will make the 100 mile trip to Livingston (0-5) on Friday.

Orangefield posted it’s second straight shutout in district, beating Anahuac 38-0. The Bobcats are on a three game win streak, outscoring their opponents 125-7. The Anahuac offense came into the contest with the #1 offense in the district, averaging over 450 yards per game but the Bobcat defense was up to the challenge, limiting the Panthers to just 132 total yards. They had 5 sacks, and created 3 turnovers. Mason Manning had 3 pass break ups, Style Spurlock had several big plays and pass break ups, Zach Morrow added 2 pass break ups, and Sophomore Rylan Agerton had 2 big interceptions. The defensive front applied pressure all night and got to the quarterback often. Fernando Sandoval-Rodriguez had a big game with 5 tackles and 2 sacks. Also, with big sacks were Morrow, William Crosby, and Logan Trahan. The defensive play of the night came from safety Rylan McAlpin in the 3rd quarter. Anahuac finally broke free on a 60 yard screen pass and McAlpin hawked down the ball carrier at the one yard line and stripped the ball into the end zone resulting in a touchback. The offense also showed up and had one of their most dominant nights of the season. The offensive line pushed around the Panthers, paving the way for 266 rushing yards. Manning finished the night with 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jose Lecea added 85 yards rushing and a touchdown. Carson Gonzales was 9 for 16 for 164 yards and one touchdown pass to Zach Morrow, who was his top target with 6 receptions for 117 yards. The Bobcat offense finished the night with 430 yards of total offense. The Bobcats will be back home next Friday as they host Coldspring at 7:30.

Deweyville is 5-1, 2-0 in district after a 56-6 win over Colmesneil (2-4, 0-2). Elijah Milton had another big night leading the Pirate ground game with 6 carries for 121 yards and 2 TD’s. Hayden Collins had 9 carries for 72 yards and 1 TD. Collins also had a strip and score for 95 yards on defense. The Pirates averaged almost 10 yds. a play, running for 377 yds. on 38 plays. Ayden Kelley had 7 carries for 66 yards, William Fountain had 7 carries for 53 yards and 2 TD’s, Gunner Evans had 3 carries for 20 yards and 1 TD. The Pirates will host Hull-Daisetta this Friday for Homecoming.

West Orange-Stark was off Friday. The Mustangs (4-1) are two points away from being undefeated with a last second loss to Nederland. WOS begins district play at Jasper Friday. Then they’ll have, in order, Shepherd, Silsbee, Tarkington and Hamshire-Fannett.
