SOCCER
The Bridge City Lady Cardinals traveled Tuesday night to Sour Lake searching for a win, and came home with the victory over the Hardin Jefferson Lady Hawks 2-1. The Cards took advantage of the marsh of a field and scored early off of a penalty kick by Reesie Ryder. Ryder wasn’t done yet though and capitalized on an HJ error to score her second goal of the night for the first half was complete. Whitleigh Moreau added four shots on goal. The Lady Cards worked hard on each side of the field and fought for every ball. Kaitlyn Lawrence had a stellar performance in the goal with 21 saves with only one goal allowed. The Lady Cardinals will take on the Hamshire Fannett Lady Horns on Friday at 5pm in Bridge City.
The Bridge City Boys soccer team opened district play at Hardin Jefferson Tuesday night with a 6-0 win over the Hawks. Rain poured as the Cardinals scored 6 goals, with freshman forward Jaden Martinez leading the scoring with two goals. Alberto Munguia, Kaide Mills, Adrian Draughn and Walker Britten also added one goal apiece for the Cards. The Cardinals defense was led by the back line of Kian Perry, Sal Torres, Kobe Bailey and Jake Potter. Goal keeper Trent Corkran played well despite the wet conditions, holding HJ scoreless. Francisco Pena, Keaton Doucet, Camden Clark and Kyle Moore all gave the Cardinals solid minutes with their play. The Cardinals host Hamshire-Fannett Friday 7 pm at Larry Ward Stadium.
