Weekly Fishing Report Week of April 24, 2024
Sam Rayburn
GOOD. Water slightly stained; 70 degrees; 3.49 feet below pool. Navigate with caution to avoid sandbars and stumps. Bass are on points and drains in shallow water spawning, and some are in a post spawn biting crankbaits and Carolina rigs. Some topwater along the grass edges. Crappie are fair in the shallows near stumps and fair on the brush piles. Some crappie are spawning near cypress trees, wade anglers can target these. White bass are schooling on main lake points but not surfacing yet. Catch some with jigs, minnows, crankbaits and jigging spoons. Catfish are slowly moving back to the points. Bass are good keying on hard clay points, grass edges and flooded timber with swim jigs, chatterbaits, topwater spooks or pop-r’s. Offshore bite is 10-20 feet on hard spots and flats, points and creek channel swings using crankbaits, Carolina rigs, shaky heads and dropshots. Toledo Bend
GOOD. Water slightly stained; 75 degrees; 0.41 feet below pool. Water levels continue to be high after the recent rains. Fishing will improve when the lake stabilizes. Bass are fair with good numbers of fish being caught, but not many big fish. Shallow bite has been best in 1-5 feet of water with spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and wacky worms. Few fish showed up deeper in 8-14 feet of water hitting shallow running crankbait and Texas rigs. Crappie are fair in shallow water, with a few fish starting to show up on docks and shallow brush piles. The creeks are stained too muddy. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
SALTWATER
Sabine Lake
GOOD. 68 degrees. Sabine Lake is fresh due to runoff, this is pushing the fish to the banks. Water clarity is murky, so navigate with caution watching for floating debris. North Levee Wall is producing limits of speckled trout on live shrimp under a popping cork or darker colored plastics. Drum and sheepshead catches in Sabine Channel rock piles, and jetties. Bolivar
GOOD. 68 degrees. Full moon this week and the fishing should be excellent. Gafftop are abundant, redfish of every size, small speckled trout 15-17 inches, and black drum are everywhere. Bolivar beachfront surf is producing redfish, black drum, gafftop, various sharks and stingray, especially near sunken boat. People are using live shrimp under a popping cork, dead, shrimp, and squid.
