How bout them Mustangs?! West Orange-Stark is going to Arlington this Friday to play the Carthage Bulldogs at 3pm for the 4AD2 title. Every playoff win they make me say “wow” more than I did the week before.
They really made a statement against Sinton in the semifinals, holding a team that averaged 45 to just three. And in the battle of Superhumans Khelvy Jefferson once again outshined the competition who came in with more than 3300 yards rushing. But I’ll give Myhka Green credit, he didn’t get the Mustang Flu like so many before him. He played the whole game.
So do they have a chance against the Mighty Bulldogs? After what I’ve seen them do in the playoffs I’m not betting against them. It’ll be another one of those games where they can’t make mistakes and they’ll have to win the turnover battle, which they’ve been doing.
It’s WOS’s ninth trip to the championship and they’re looking for a ring for the thumb, the Drive For Five as I’ve called it. I was asked where they rank on trips to Arlington. Well like I said they’re making their ninth trip and there are 16 teams that have made double digit trips, lead by Katy and Mart who have gone 15 times each.
KOGT will be doing several stories through the week and we will be there to cover the game on Friday. The Juice also gives a shoutout to the Newton Eagles who will play on Thursday. The Eagles are making their 8th trip and looking for their 6th title

Do you remember the Post Office creed “Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds.” Well we’re just trying to get mail on a sunny day.
We have heard from many about not getting mail, getting the wrong mail, and in Deweyville they’ve gone as many as 10 straight days with no mail at all. Some residents were telling me they were having to drive to Orange to get their mail and then it changed and they weren’t able to get their mail at all.
I tried to go to the post office to get a response and the only person that would talk said they were short staffed. That’s not acceptable with the mail. Especially during Christmas time. But you have people that get medication through the mail and those that still pay their bills through the mail.
The Orange Post Office has had their issues in the past but from the complaints we’ve received and the talk on social media, it’s as bad as ever. Now I’m sure the drivers and sorters are doing what they’re paid to do. I know I’ve seen our driver as late as 8pm in our neighborhood. But the banks and your body, if you’re taking meds, are not going to say, “Oh no problem, we’ll wait until next month for payment.”
Calling the Orange number or going through the USPS website is damn near useless. I’ve spoken to an elected official that said the calls need to be made to our representatives. So here they are depending on where you live. U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (District 14) 409-835-0108, State Senator Robert Nichols (District 3) (409) 755-9893 or (903) 589-3003, State Rep. Dade Phelan (District 21, for parts) (409) 745-2777 or (512) 463-0706. Nichols is also who you want to call if you live in Deweyville. If you get anywhere with it and want to share, my email is below.

Saw the other day that Jasper native and former Bassmaster Elite Todd Faircloth has picked up locally based STI Construction as one of his sponsors this season. Faircloth is fishing with MLF in 2026. Hard to believe it was 12 years ago that he won on the Sabine River.

Orangefield’s Jaden Scales is having a great start to his senior basketball season. He scored his career best 49 points against Sabine Pass on Saturday and it’s believed to be a school record also. Austin Farias had a career high 42 and Pete Ragusa’s high was 41 we believe. Scales has his sights on Farias’ career record. A couple of other Bobcats have been record breakers this season. Mason Manning broke the career rushing record and Kaleb Menard set a new tackle record for a season. I expect to see both at the WRS Awards next year.

Hated to hear about Raul Malo’s passing at the young age of 60. If you weren’t familiar with him, country music fans may remember him as the lead singer of The Mavericks. They had enough songs for a greatest hits album but his voice really stood out by itself. My favorite song was not one of his songs or The Mavericks, it was his version of Ray Price’s “For the Good Times.” You can find it on YouTube.
