The Stark Museum of Art is pleased to announce their fourth annual “College Juried Art Exhibition” is now on view in the Community Art Gallery through December 20. The exhibition features 19 original works of art from students enrolled at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Selection for the exhibition included the opportunity to be considered for one of three awards sponsored by Blick Art Materials. Awards were selected by the exhibition’s juror. This year’s Best of Show award was presented to Elisa Hevia from McNeese State University for her painting, “October Still Life.” The juror commented on the bold outlining, exaggeration of shapes and evident effects of light in the still life, which gave it a commanding visual impact. The Best of Show award included a $500 Blick Art Materials Gift Certificate.
Two Honorable Mentions were also awarded. Nelly Gonzalez Chan, McNeese State University, received an Honorable Mention for her artwork, “Resting by the Jade Pond.” The juror noted that “this work evokes a mood of calm and balance.” Angela de la Rosa, Lamar University, received an Honorable Mention for her mixed media work “Grace.” The juror commented that de la Rosa “dramatically evokes a sense of personality of the subject, while abstracting the figure and experimenting with color.” Each Honorable Mention recipient received a $100 Blick Art Materials Gift Certificate.
