
Funeral services for Mr. Sherman Wayne Sylestine will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Coushatta Multipurpose Complex, Elton, with Reverend John Cernek officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, Elton, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Mr. Sylestine, 57, of Orange, Texas, entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont, Texas.
He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose love and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.
He was a proud graduate of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School and later earned degrees in Industrial Instrumentation and Computer Drafting Technology from Lamar Institute of Technology. He took great pride in his education and the skills he developed throughout his career.
An avid billiards player, he enjoyed the friendships and competition the game brought. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping his team win the ACS Texas State Championship.
He also had a passion for collecting and customizing Hot Wheels cars, always appreciating the creativity and craftsmanship behind each one. He loved listening to good music, admired classic vehicles, and made it a personal mission to try as many different kinds of pizza as possible.
His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a faithful member of Little Cypress Baptist Church.
He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his many interests, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delson Sylestine; one brother, Chuck Sylestine; paternal grandparents, Edward and Della Sylestine; and maternal grandparents, Solomon and Adeline Battise.
Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include his loving wife of twenty-four years, Marilyn Sylestine of Orange, Texas; one son, Brice Sylestine of Orange, Texas; one daughter, Justine Richard (Issiah) of Ragley; his mother, Janice Marie Sylestine of Orange, Texas; two brothers, Terry Sylestine of Orange, Texas, and Irvin Sylestine of Texas; two sisters, Sarah Gwen Alford (Patrick) of Orange, Texas, and Ana Sylestine of Spring, Texas; five nieces, Hannah Jones, Arianna Alford, Kiyara Sylestine, Terryne Sylestine, and Ashland Sylestine; four nephews, Adrial Sylestine, Austin Bernal, Christian Alford, and Orva Sylestine; and one great niece, Starling Peoples-Sylestine.
A time of visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Kinder, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the Coushatta Multipurpose Complex, Elton, on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Austin Bernal, Adrial Sylestine, Christian Alford, Logan Peoples, Daniel Battise, and Devin Sylestine.
