Orange County Health Inspector James Scales handed out some good grades, especially to schools, during the last part of January.
The lowest score was an 82 for The Falls Grocery-Meats in Vidor. The store had problems with keeping foods and coolers at proper safe temperatures. Other stores he went to had mold in ice machines and one even had spiders throughout.
Scales made 22 inspections with 12 earning perfect 100s. El Ranchero, 2413 16th Street, was the only restaurant earning a perfect score. The others were schools and day care centers. The schools were St. Mary School in Orange, Vidor Elementary, Oak Forest Elementary in Vidor, Vidor High School, Orangefield Junior High, Little Cypress Intermediate, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville High.
Little Cypress Junior High made a 99 because Scales found mice feces on top of the ovens and the air returns needed to be cleaned.
The child care businesses getting perfect scores were Apple Tree Child Enrichment in Orangefield, Little Flock Daycare in Little Cypress, Bright Horizon Learning Center in Vidor, and Kid’s Castle in Bridge City.
Scales also made pre-opening inspections with no scores at Red’s Crawfish to Go in Bridge City and Rustic Saloon in Bridge City.
