A 23-year-old man accused of killing a college student who was his roommate is now in the Orange County Jail.
Samed Faroq Rafiq was arrested in Farmingdale, New York, on May 1 after his indictment in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Nathaniel Anderson in 2017. Local officials filed for extradition and Rafiq was booked into the Orange County Jail Thursday.
Also, 32-year-old Kevin Michael VanHorne of Orange was indicted for tampering with evidence, a second degree felony if it involves a corpse. He surrendered to authorities after the indictment and is still in the Orange County Jail.
Anderson’s body was found in October 2017 in woods behind the old MacArthur Shopping Center, which was being demolished at the time. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office at the time said detectives had received information about the location of Anderson’s body. His parents reported him missing in May 2017.
Anderson was a student at Lamar State College Orange and had been living in a mobile home with two roommates in a park off Highway 62 in Orange County.
