
Friday night the Deweyville Pirates hung on for the 28-26 win in a physical battle against Mt. Enterprise in Shelbyville.
With a season ending injury to running back CJ Milton, senior Elijah Curl stepped up with 188 yards on 32 carries and 2 TD’s.
The Pirates held a 20-8 lead at the half but the Wildcats wouldn’t go away. Deweyville tried to run the clock out late but were forced to punt. The Wildcats scored with 48 seconds left to make it 28-26 but the Pirate defense made a stop on the two point conversion to seal the Bi-District win.
Kallel Crooks had 49 yards on 12 carries and 1 TD, Elijah Milton had 38 yards on 4 carries and 1 TD, and Gunner Evans had 37 yards on 6 carries and DJ Kelley had 24 yards on 1 carry. Milton also had one reception for 21 yards.
The Pirates ended the night with 336 yards on 54 carries and 21 yards in the air for a total of 357.
Deweyville will have a rematch this week with Simms Bowie Friday night at 7 in San Augustine for the Area round of the State Playoffs. Bowie won last years second round match 30-16.
