Harold “Speedy” Wayne Large, age 80, of Orange, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 27, 2024, surrounded by loving family. A memorial gathering will be held at Dorman Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 15, 2024. Harold was born on October 26, 1943 in San Angelo, Texas, to parents, Robert and Nancy “Polly” Large. Erickson Era Ends At OHS
The Tim Erickson Era is over in Orangefield. After eight successful seasons leading the Bobcat baseball program, Erickson is going across the bridge to take over at 5A Port Neches-Groves. Erickson's Bobcats reached the third round or better in every season but one. That includes four seasons in 4A. This season was one for the record books as the Bobcats were one win from a trip to the 3A State Tournament, losing to the eventual state champs from Franklin. “Body” Found In Vehicle
Wednesday morning at approximately 11am a church in Vidor called Ray's Wrecker Service to come and pick up a vehicle that had been left unattended in the parking lot. When they returned to their shop they were checking the vehicle for inventory and located some blankets in the trunk with what appeared to be human hair and a leg sticking out underneath. Police arrived, the scene was roped off and the Justice of the Peace was called in. They pulled back the blankets to find.... a female mannequin. Humble Steps Down As Chief
Tuesday night at the Pinehurst city council meeting, Chris Humble announced he was stepping down as Police Chief after almost two years on the job. He has accepted a position with the new LCMCISD Police Department. "I took this job (in Pinehurst) thinking it would be my last, but this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Humble told council. Body Found is Identified
On Sunday, June 9th, 2024, at about 2:28 PM, Pinehurst Police Department received a call from a local citizen who was kayaking in Adam’s Bayou and came upon personal belongings. Officers arrived at the location and located car keys, tennis shoes, and identification. After a thorough investigation the deceased black male has been identified as Niaja Cormier of Houston, TX. Originally from Lafayette, LA. Cormier was listed as a missing person on May 29th, 2024 by Beaumont PD and his next of kin was notified. Football will not be the only sport to have two champions per classification. The University Interscholastic League Legislative Council met Tuesday to make decisions on proposed rule changes in UIL academics, athletics, music and policy. Additionally, the Legislative Council passed an amendment for split divisions in the postseason for volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball.
