Shirley Lois Adair, of Orange, Texas, gained her angel wings on June 6, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Born on February 7, 1937, Shirley spent 87 years spreading joy, laughter, and love to any and all around.
A kind and generous soul, she spent most of her life taking care of family, friends, and others. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and a long time donor to St. Jude’s Hospital. Her quick wit was also enjoyed by all who knew her. She held many jobs throughout her life but none she loved to tell you about more than the one where she could “pickup men.” She was a long time driver for the Kansas City Railroad where she would pickup the conductors at their trains and driver them to where they needed to go. Most of the workers were men.
You would rarely find her alone. She loved spending time with family or having a good time with friends playing bunco and card games. Later in life she loved going to bingo every Sunday with her daughter and to watch her great-grandchildren perform in their many activities. She was always there to offer a hug, a kind or funny word whatever you needed, and she never met a stranger.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Debbie Kendrick, granddaughter Robyn Clausen and husband Chris, great-grandchildren Ryder and Kimber Clausen, and numerous other family and friends who cherished her. She is now reunited with her parents William and Myrtie Etta Kitchens, husband Robert Adair, son David Hanson, brothers Travis Linscomb and Benny Maxwell, cousin Iva Ray Caywood Clark, and long time friend LaJuan Fuller.
A memorial gathering honoring Shirley will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024 at Dorman’s Funeral Home in Orange, TX.
