The Deweyville Lady Pirates volleyball team finished as consolation champions after falling in the first round to the tournament champions, Beaumont Ozen. They came back and won consolation on Saturday, August 22nd by defeating West Hardin 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, Beaumont Kelly 19-25, 25-20, 25-16, and Silsbee 25-20, 28-26. Stats for all 3 matches combined had Shaylin Dupuy with 83 assists and 7 aces, Kennidee Willis had 64 kills, 44 digs, and 11 aces, Gabby Dupuy had 37 digs. Charges Filed for Bail America Burglary Orange police filed burglary charges Friday against 30-year-old Jeremy Gray in connection with a break-in at bail bond business a block away from the police station. The owner of Bail America at 309 Eighth Street, told police the break-in was between 9:45 and 11:45 p.m. Wednesday. A drill battery worth about $35, two cases of water worth about $10 and a starter’s pistol were stolen. The damage to the door was estimated at $250. Toddler in Houston Hospital with Head Injury A man is being investigated in connection with injuries to a 2-year-old child, who is being treated at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston for a head injury and bruises. Orange police were called to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont at 1:30 p.m. Thursday concerning the child. Officer L.A. Lovelace reported the child's guardians had taken the child for treatment. The toddler had been with a babysitter at the Cypress Cove Apartments, 3819 Meeks Drive. Congratulations to Bridge City's Alexus Henry and Brendon Rivera of Edinburg for winning the fan vote for the Texas Field Athletes of the Year! Henry was the 4A girls state high jump winner setting the new record jumping 5'10.5". Rivera was the 5A boys high jump champ clearing 6'9". The girls poll was a close race all the way to the end. With about 24 hours left Henry made a push to out pass Jernaya Sharp who came in a close second with 1,577 votes.
