It has been since the second week of March that classes were held in Deweyville schools because of the flooding from the Sabine River. Superintendent Kevin Clark of the Deweyville Independent School District said when students return to classes on Monday it will be like the first day of school again. Clark added teachers are excited to get back in the classroom, and he hopes the students will be just as excited as the teachers are. Orangefield Junior High students Gracie Donnaud, 7th grader, and Lucas Mohan, 6th grader, were finalists at the Better Business Bureau’s 5th Annual Laws of Life Awards Banquet at the Downtown Event Centre in Beaumont. Lucas and Gracie’s essays were two of the fifteen finalists out of over 3,300 submissions from Southeast Texas schools. Gracie’s essay , “Lessons to Live By”, earned third place overall. A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to serve a total of 50 years in state prison after pleading guilty to two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child. 260th District Judge Buddie Hahn sentenced Jeffrey Mulvaney to 25 years on each count with the sentences to be stacked, or served one after the other. 128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen set a July 25 trial date for the man accused of intoxication manslaughter in the deaths of a Little Cypress couple who were riding a motorcycle when they were hit by an airborne pickup truck last May. 29-year-old Travis OBrian Collins of Orange pleaded "not guilty" to the two charges Friday morning. Bridge City police arrested a 26-year-old man Thursday a few hours after five vehicles were reported burglarized on Hebert and Dobbyn streets. Trey Thomas Dowd has been charged with five counts of burglary of a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, plus fraudulent possession of identification.
