Newton Co. Sheriff Robert Burby has announced that the medical examiner has ruled that Cierra Westbrooks death was caused by a Methamphetamine overdose. Her death has been ruled accidental. On Friday August 23, 2024, the Newton Co. Sheriff's Office was called regarding an unresponsive female found near the roadway on County Road 4203 in Deweyville. They found a female laying on the ground in the dirt in the driveway. She was identified as Cierra Westbrook, 33, of Deweyville. Burby said in a statement. Heavy fog may have been a factor in an early morning accident Friday. The accident happened in front of the Cowboy Church on FM1078 when a Buick Enclave and a Chevrolet pick up struck each other. A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Corey Germaine Carter of Orange for Deadly Conduct, Discharging a Firearm. On October 13 officers with the Beaumont Police Dept. were dispatched to Honey's Drive In on Concord in Beaumont for a homicide. During the course of the investigation, video surveillance showed a black male in a white t-shirt and red shorts, pull a gun from his waistband and firing into the crowd of people.
