Orange County had a record number of early votes for Tuesday's election. When early voting ended on Friday, the county had a total of 22,865 early voters from 53,053 registered voters. In the 2012 presidential election, the county had 20,097 early votes. The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Orange County has 34 voting boxes and voters must go to their assigned boxes. Deweyville area voters will choose new school board members and a Precinct 4 Newton County commissioner during elections on Tuesday. In addition, the county has contested races for county judge and sheriff. In the Deweyville ISD trustee election, 55 ballots were cast early. Four at-large positions are open with a total of seven candidates. Incumbents Sandra Blakeney, Rodney Whitfield and Gary Brinson are seeking re-election. Weekend Accidents
Five people were taken by ambulances to hospitals Friday after two separate collisions in the 2300 block of MacArthur Drive. Both crashes involved a vehicle making an unsafe turn in front of another vehicle, according to Orange police reports. Also a motorcyclist was seriously injured when it collided with a car Thursday morning in the 600 block of Strickland Drive. Orange police said an 18-year-old Vidor man was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with incapacitating injuries. OFISD, To Vote Or Not To Vote
The Orangefield school district had 36 early votes for its non-competitive election. Incumbent Dr. Ronald Risinger is running for re-election to the Place 6 seat and Chris Wagstaff is on the ballot opposing him. Wagstaff asked to withdraw from the election, but he submitted the withdrawal form after the state deadline to withdraw. If the form had been turned in before the deadline, the district would have been able to cancel the election. LCM Band Barely Misses Final
The LCM Band competed at the 4A State Marching Contest in San Antonio Monday but their name was not called Monday afternoon to perform in the finals. Twenty three 4A bands competed and 10 were invited to the finals. LCM finished 11th. Orange Council Meets Tuesday AM
The Orange City Council worked through the summer deciding how to spend money for the 2017 budget year and now is the time to get the projects moving. Tuesday the council will meet at 9 a.m. with the agenda including proposals to give contracts for the new water plant and elevated water tower on Richard Drive off Interstate 10 east of Highway 62. Public Works Director Jim Wolf is recommending a $1.9 million contract to Allco for the plant and a $1.5 million contract to Landmark for the water tank. Authorities Looking For Suspects
The Orange County Sheriff's Office and Abbeville Louisiana Police Department think 61-year-old Eric Stansbury of Vidor was murdered in the Vidor area the morning of Tuesday, October 25. They are looking for three suspects, two men and a woman, in connection with Stansbury's death. His body was found inside his truck later that day in Abbeville. Police there said he appeared to have been shot to death. Orange County Deputy Janois Grizzaffi said Stansbury left Vidor to go to work in Beaumont about 4 a.m. October 25.
