Patrick Morris rushed for 228 yards and 3 touchdowns Friday night as the Bridge City Cardinals advanced to the Area Round with a 35-28 win over the Center Roughriders in Splendora. Morris carried the load for BC with 32 carries as he took up the slack from an absent Cayce Draper. The football season came to an end Friday night for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears. The Henderson Lions built a big first quarter advantage to win the bi-district playoff game with the Bears 48-12 at Monte Jack Driskell Stadium in Crockett. Two turnovers on consecutive LC-M possessions in the first quarter broke open a close game in favor of Henderson (10-1). Facing fourth-and-short from their own 40 the Bears elected to punt. Max L. Julian Dill, formerly of Orange, TX, died November 2, 2016 in Rockwall, TX of congestive heart failure. Julian was born in Port Arthur, TX on June 11, 1939 to John and Verneal Augusta Dill. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Tessie White; brother, Gene Hunt; nephew, Miles Hunt; and son, Terry Dill. Julian is survived by his wife, Amy Dill, of 54 years and a daughter and son. He leaves a brother, James Henry, a much revered sister-in- law, Jimmie Hunt and a host of precious nieces and nephews. Loop Opposition To Meet
A coalition opposing construction of the Vidor Loop 299 will have a public information meeting Tuesday evening in Vidor. The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 20691 Interstate 10. A spokeswoman from the National Parks Conservation Association said the proposed loop will pass within a few hundred feet of where the Big Thicket National Preserve begins.
