Veronica Woodle, a former member of the Orange Police Department, is challenging Larry Spears Jr. for the At-Large Position 6 seat on the Orange City Council. Power Outage Affects 7900
Electrical power has been restored across the county after a major outage before midnight Thursday. Approximately 7900 customers in Bridge City and Orangefield were in total black-out. Other areas were also affected and power blinked off for a few seconds across Orange. Entergy says the 138kv line tripped causing the power outage. The investigation is ongoing, including helicopters flying in the area today to check the area and the marsh. The outages affected Chemical Row plants. Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School art students recently participated in the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest and received several ribbons and a medal for their efforts. Orange Police Reports-Wednesday
A 50-year-old bicyclist was injured Wednesday night when a car hit him in the roadway near Walmart. Orange police said the bicycle did not have a white front light. Daniel Wayne Bergeron of Orange was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Police described his injuries as non-incapacitating. The collision was about 7:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Edgar Brown Drive. A 30-year-old man from Orange was driving a Chevrolet Impala and was turning from the Walmart driveway onto Edgar Brown. Citizens Have Questions About Hospital District
A career health care worker said "people will die" without a local hospital, but other citizens are concerned about the creation of a new government entity and taxes. Orange County Commissioners Court Thursday afternoon held the first of two public forums on creating a special hospital district to get a new hospital to the county. The need for the hospital came in December after Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas announced the closing of the Orange hospital. Justice of the Peace Derry Dunn said the man who died in a Sussex Manor apartment had a history of heart and kidney problems. Pending the results of a toxicology report, the judge has tentatively ruled the man died of natural causes. Pinehurst police on Monday had an emergency call that the man had been stabbed. Judge Dunn, whose Precinct 2 includes Pinehurst, said 54-year-old Raymond Lynn Maddox had no wounds except for a small cut on a finger.
