The West Orange - Stark High School Finals of the Stark Reading Finals were held last night. Finalists in Declamations were Erick Cortez, E’Laziah Nickerson, Ryan Ragsdale, Aaliyah Wilson, and Halle Brown. Finalists in Interpretive Readings were Essence Landry, Wyndie Williams, Kiara Pitre, Chyne Daw, and Ciara Griffin. Ryan Ragsdale and Essence Landry placed second in their respective categories. Melvin Walter Bishop, Jr, 68 of Woodville, left us peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was born May 2, 1948 in Orange, TX. He graduated from West Orange High School where he was a gifted athlete and attended Lamar University on a football scholarship. He worked for Owens Illinois Papermill for 23 years. Melvin never met a stranger and often said exactly what he was thinking; politically correct or not. WOS Performs With Precision
West Orange - Stark High School precision machine students earned top honors at the District Speed Skills competition held recently. Keegan Wilkerson earned first place in the speed skills machining contest with a perfect score. Carlos Gutierrez placed third. Roberto Artiga tied for fourth. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Orange County will be accepting donations for the Texas Panhandle As many of you know, wild land fires in the Texas Panhandle has consumed hundreds of thousands of acres of rangeland, destroyed homes and other structures, killed livestock and wildlife, and very tragically cost human lives. Roundbunch Swing Bridge Closed
Orange County Engineer Clark Slacum has announced that TxDOT has closed the Cow Bayou swing bridge at the end of East Roundbunch that runs to FM 1006 (Chemical Row) following a recent inspection. The Sophisticats Drill Team from Orangefield High School recently returned from two dance competitions in the Houston area. At American Dance and Drill contest at Dekaney High School the girls had a successful weekend! They received the “Wow Factor” award for their Novelty, Sweepstakes for both officer and team routines.
