A falling-down house in Navy Park was knocked down and the remnants removed Wednesday as part of the city of Orange's effort to improve areas. The demolition and six more are being paid through a Stark Foundation donation. City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said the foundation gave $35,300 to the city for removing vacant and dilapidated buildings. Dallas Throws No Hitter Vs. Bears
WOS junior Chad Dallas threw a no hitter, struck out 14, and walked one as the Mustangs blanked the LCM Bears 9-0. WOS (6-0) started the scoring in the second when Blake Robinson doubled in two runs. Kaleb Ramsey scored on an error to make it 3-0. In the third Jack Dallas reached on an error and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Odene Byerly Cockrell passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 at the age of 92. Her family is thankful for the love, selflessness, legacy of faith, and unwavering support she gave throughout her life. Her laughter and smiles will be missed by many. Kenneth Kay Rochau, 75, of Orange, Texas, passed away on April 1, 2017, in Orange. Born in Davenport, Iowa, on March 25, 1942, he was the son of Raymond Arnold Rochau and Ella Elfrieda Hinrichs. Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Navy, and later, an environmental field technician for RMT Environmental. Guidry’s Seat Must Be Voted On
Orange will have to have a special city council election for Single Member District 2 to replace Dr. Wayne Guidry. City Manager Dr. Shawn Oubre gave the information to the City Council during a meeting Tuesday. Oubre said the election could be held by the end of June. Guidry, who is an administrator for the West Orange-Cove school district, has been named as the lone finalist for the job of superintendent of the Hubbard ISD. The Texas Education Agency rules require a school district to name a lone finalist for 21 days before the action for the official hiring. Sheriff’s Union Arbitration
The Commissioners Court held a record short three-minute meeting Tuesday morning to pay bills. Following the regular meeting there was a six-hour arbitration hearing with the Sheriff’s Office Employees Union. The arbitration concerns changes made by the Commissioners Court in October regarding retiree insurance coverage by the county. The county was represented by County Judge Brint Carlton, Commissioner Jody Crump, and hired attorney Bette Lynn during the hearing.
