The 35th Annual OCARC Fishing Tournament is Friday and Saturday with weigh-in Saturday at 5pm at the Orange Boat Ramp under the pavilion.
“We’re all ready,” said Director John Thomas. “We’ve got a great group that’s been organizing the tournament for many years. We just want as many people as possible to come out and fish, especially the kids.”
The OCARC Tournament has always put an emphasis on the kids. Every kid that turns in a fish gets a trophy and there are many giveaways and raffles with the kids in mind.
The tournament has also made it interesting for the serious fisherman or the ones serious about cashing in.
The four top categories in the big fish tournament (Bass, Spec, Redfish and Flounder) are all now giving $750 to the winner. Not a bad return for a $30 investment.
The OCARC Tournament is the most unique tournament in the area with 12 categories in both freshwater and saltwater. “That’s one of the beautiful things about our area,” Thomas said. “We have the best of both worlds. And right now you don’t know what you’ll catch. We’ve seen people catching stingrays north of the I-10 bridge with the lack of rain we’ve had. I’m expecting to see some good weights turned in.”
Whether you fish or not, Thomas invites everyone to bring a lawn chair and the kids and come an watch the weigh-in. “It’s really nice having the pavilion. We have shade and the big fans going. And it’s fun just to see all the different kinds of fish being weighed in.”
