MISSING PERSON – JOSHUA IAN LARKIN: Joshua Ian Larkin, W/M, Ht. 6’0, weighs about 180 lbs., 38 Years of Age, short brown hair with green eyes is listed as a “Missing Person”. A copy of his photograph is posted on our Newton Sheriff’s Facebook page and in area newspapers. Anyone who has information regarding Joshua Ian Larkin’s location is asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at (409)379-3636 or 3637.
Dog Attack – Burkeville: On Sunday, December 4, 2022, in the vicinity of Hwy 87 near Hwy 63 West, a 19 YOA female was attacked in the roadway by a pack of dogs. The victim sustained numerous injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The owner of the dogs was cited. We are working with the various agencies to permanently remove these dogs.
NOTICE: We received another call of two (2) dogs that appear to be abandoned near 316 2096 (Mixed Breed, Black & Dark Brown).
Newton County does not have an animal shelter, and we are diligently working these types of issues throughout Newton County.
NCSO STOCKMAN PROGRAM: On Saturday we responded to Motor Vehicle Accidents involving Cows, West of Old Sawmill Town on Hwy 190 West. Two cows were killed, and another ran into the wooded area on the southside of Hwy 190 West.
We currently have 1 adult cow, and 2 calves and 6 Donkeys that were picked up last week. Anyone who may know the owners of these animals is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (409)379-3636.
Calls To Services (November 28, 2022, to December 4, 2022): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered sixty-four (64) calls to service
Jail Population: We currently have sixteen (16) inmates in the following Jails, eight (8) housed in Newton, eight (8) housed in Jasper.
Jail Bookings: Last week there was one (1) individual booked into the NCSO Jail.
Jail Transports: Last week there were five (5) transports made. One (1) to Houston, two (2) from Jasper to Newton, one (1) from Newton to Jefferson County, and one (1) from Newton to Jasper.
