A South Carolina funeral home co-owner is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center following his arrest on a fugitive from justice warrant tied to a criminal sexual conduct case in Michigan.
According to reports, Robert Ian Nelms was taken into custody last week on a warrant issued out of Grand Traverse County, Michigan. Authorities say the warrant is connected to a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge involving an alleged incident that occurred while Nelms was living in Michigan.
Nelms is the co-owner of the Cremation Society of South Carolina, which has locations in Greenville and Seneca. He is currently awaiting extradition to Michigan.
Court records indicate Nelms has previously faced controversies and legal matters related to the funeral industry.
