The family of Miles A. Baldwin, Jr. is saddened to announce his passing on December 10, 2023 at his home in Clarksville at the age of 91. With his wife of 66 years by his side, there will be an emptiness in the hearts of his family that fond memories will slowly begin to fill.
Miles was born in Stilson, Georgia to Miles A. Baldwin, Sr and Annie Bell Lamb (Baldwin). He leaves behind his wife, Brucelle and four children and their spouses, Teresa Renee Smith (David), Terri Lynn Procella (Barry), Glen David Baldwin (Ronda), and Tonia Louise Kingham (Donald). He also leaves behind 9 grand children, 9 great grand children, his brother Roger F. Baldwin (Peggy) and one sister Joyce Burton.
Preceding him in death were his parents as well as his best friends H.D. Benson and Everette Turner.
Miles often spoke of the first time he saw his wife, Brucelle Sorge at a cafe in Orange, Texas called the Sugar Bowl. She went there on weekends sometimes and their paths crossed. He married her on August 27, 1957 and cherished her till he took his last breath.
Miles graduated from Oark High school and lived in Catalpa, Arkansas. His family moved to Texas and he served in the Army in the 1950’s before he met Brucelle. He became a draftsman and worked in many states over the years. While living in Texas, he began his own drafting service called Universal Drafting which he operated for several years. His former high school contacted him to design the cafetorium for the campus. He returned to Oark after its completion and was proud to see his work go from paper to completion. He was honored to see a plaque with the names of those that made it possible.
Miles loved to fly and obtained his pilot’s license in the 1970’s, while living in Texas. He also loved to travel and took his family on many adventures from camping on the weekends to vacationing in the Yucatan. He enjoyed Hawaii with his wife as well as many cruises with her and his brother, Roger and wife Peggy. The love of the mountains brought him back where he lived out the remainder of his life enjoying the beauty of Arkansas with his wife. They rode 4-wheelers in the snow, had picnics in the mountains, enjoyed the wildlife and each other’s company.
Miles, also known as Junior, Daddy, and Granddaddy will be deeply missed. Cremation is under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, Arkansas. A gathering of family and friends will be announced at a later date.
