Lamar State College Orange conferred 140 certificates and degrees to 112 graduates at Summer commencement on Saturday, August 10, 2024. This represents an 18% increase in graduates over Summer 2023. The summer class of 2024 held an average GPA of 3.31.
“Commencement is truly dear to my heart at Lamar State College Orange,” shared President Thomas Johnson. “Seeing our students’ achievements fills me with great pride, and I am profoundly grateful to share in such a meaningful milestone in their lives.”
80% of our graduates are pioneers in their families, being the first to pursue higher education. LSCO celebrates this as a testament to our commitment to being a place where hope meets opportunity. We understand the transformative power of a college certificate or degree, not just for the individual student, but for future generations to follow.
“The remarkable commitment and perseverance demonstrated by each student who crossed the stage is truly inspiring,” said Dr. Wendy Elmore, Provost and Executive Vice President. “Many of our students balance the demands of full-time employment while pursuing their education. Every one of them should take pride in the profound statement that a certificate or degree from Lamar State College Orange makes about their character and determination.”
Graduates this semester come from all over the state of Texas & Louisiana with 52% living in Orange County, 17% from Jefferson County, 10% from Parishes in Louisiana, and 8% each in Jasper and Hardin Counties. 70% are graduating with a technical certificate or degree in a craft, skill or trade while 30% are receiving an academic certificate or degree.
