Larry Gene Melton, Jr., age 61, died unexpectedly at his residence. Known as “Bud” to his family and close friends, he was a talented and intelligent person who could connect and converse with just about anyone on a variety of subjects. His interests were vast; he was self- taught in many areas and he was a jack of all trades. He had an aptitude for computers from an early age and excelled in the IT field early in his working years. He remained an informal computer geek until his death and was frequently called upon by family and friends to troubleshoot technical difficulties. Bud loved to “hold court” and could engage in long and interesting conversations liberally peppered with his humor and quick wit. He overcame many challenges in his life that would have incapacitated most. With his loud, booming voice and equally loud, booming laugh, he could lighten a room and bring levity to almost any situation. He had a strong personality and equally strong work ethic, and took pride in any job he undertook. Larry was a survivor and a problem solver, attributes he was required to call upon many times in his life. While he enjoyed his solitude, his family cherishes the time they had and the many memories they made with him. Larry took the loss of his mom, Jo Ann Alborn particularly hard as in so many ways she was both his guiding star and anchor. Larry was very loved, and his sisters in particular mourn the loss of their baby brother. They are comforted to know that upon entering heaven he exclaimed “Mumsy, I’m home!”
Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Taylor Melton, father, Larry Gene Melton Sr., mother Jo Ann Alborn, and beloved stepfather, Charles E. Alborn.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Callie Melton, sisters Lauryi (Kevin) Knowles and Sue (Michael) Landry, nephews, Jon Knowles (Amy), and Garrett Robbins (Jessica), niece Shonda Robbins Colby (Dan), aunts Rosa May Babcock and Georgia Lusich, uncle Skipper Conway, stepmom, Sandy Melton, and Kathie and Ronnie Dorman who were great friends and like family to Larry.
The family would like to thank everyone who showed Larry acts of kindness along his often-difficult path. We can never know what difficulties a person has overcome in life, but we can always show them kindness.
If you want to honor Larry’s life, the family suggests that you show kindness to others at every opportunity and think of Larry. A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
