Local Attorney Michael Catt has officially announced he will be seeking election for judge of the 163rd Judicial District Court of Orange County, Texas.
Michael has been an attorney in Southeast Texas for 23 years, 22 of those in Orange. He received his undergraduate degree with honors from Texas Tech University with a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Speech Communications. He then attended law school at the University of Texas School of Law where he received his doctor of jurisprudence degree. Michael also received a Faculty of Laws from the University of London. While in law school in Austin, he partnered to win the American Bar Association’s Negotiations Competition.
After graduating law school and practicing banking law for a year in Beaumont, Michael moved to Orange and began practicing law in 1997 with Steve Carlton in Orange. Eventually the two formed Carlton & Catt, P.C., where he continued to practice until 2012, when Michael formed his own law firm, Catt Law Firm, P.C.
For the past 23 years, Michael has handled thousands of cases for his clients, both individuals and businesses in Orange County, in every area of law that the 163rd District Court presides over. He has tried family law cases, personal injury cases, civil cases, and criminal cases, both to judges and juries. Michael has further served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Orange County Bar Association.
“After having the true pleasure of representing countless clients in this county and others over my career, I am pleased and excited to announce my intention to become a district judge in this county and to continue to serve its citizens in that capacity. I have been blessed by the overwhelming support and encouragement to run for this position by my fellow lawyers in Southeast Texas. I have also been humbled to receive numerous calls from members of law enforcement encouraging me to run, as well as incredible support from many in our community. I believe I am uniquely qualified among those seeking this judgeship due to the great diversity of my practice and experience. I believe I have the temperament and disposition to be a judge of which the citizens of our county can be proud. I will always seek to help our citizens receive fair and impartial justice, within the confines of the law. I believe as Alexander Hamilton did that ‘the first duty of society is justice.’ I humbly ask for the voters’ support in Republican primary next March and pledge to make them proud of their vote if they do.”
Michael has been married for 21 years to his wife Angelique (née Brint), who is in her twentieth year teaching at Orangefield High School. They have three children, Alex, Valentin, and Sydney. The Catt’s worship at St. Francis of Assisi in Little Cypress.
