John “Johnny” Joseph Borel, 69, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston. Johnny was born January 28, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Alton James Borel, Sr. and Mary Alice Durand Borel. He lived in St. Paul, Minnesota until 2015, when he moved to Port Arthur. He attended St. James Catholic Church until the 8th grade and Thomas Jefferson High School. Johnny served two years in the United States Army. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and eating crawfish. He truly loved his Cajun heritage.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cathie Ann Hendrickson Borel; siblings, Alton Borel, Jr. and wife Linda of Taylor Landing, TX, Alice Moore and husband Jerry of Port Neches, TX, Ann Duchamp and husband Glynn of Port Arthur, TX, Gail Freeman and husband Gary of Nederland, TX and Judy Nesbitt of Nederland, TX. Nieces and nephews include; Nieces and nephews and their spouses include: Marc Borel, Jill Borel Provost and husband Ricky; Tommy Moore and wife, Megan; Brad Moore and Beth Scoggin; Clint Moore and wife, Calli; Casha Duchamp Perry and husband, Michael; Mitch Duchamp and wife, Ashleigh; Cory Freeman and wife, Tisha; Clay Freeman and wife, Bailey; Cole Nesbitt and Maria Stamatis; and Callie Nesbitt.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.
