
Freddie Eugene Hogden was born July 18th, 1936, and passed away February 8, 2026, at the age of 89.
Freddie was a hardworking and dependable man whose life was defined by service, skill, and devotion to his family. Beginning his career as an ironworker in 1958, he built a lifetime of honest work and self-reliance that reflected his strong character and determination.
Over the years, Freddie proved himself to be a true jack of all trades. He worked as an auto mechanic, boat captain, shrimper, longshoreman, and in the oil field, never afraid of hard labor and always willing to take on whatever job was needed. His hands could fix nearly anything, and his work ethic earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him.
He also dedicated many years to public service, serving as a police officer for the City of DeQuincy, Louisiana, a sheriff’s deputy for Calcasieu Parish, and later as constable of Starks, Louisiana. In each role, he was known for his reliability, integrity, and commitment to protecting and serving his community.
Above all else, Freddie was a family man. He was charitable, dependable, and always ready to help others without hesitation or expectation of recognition. His steady presence, practical wisdom, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Freddie will be remembered for his many skills, his strong sense of duty, and the love he had for his family and community, a man who worked hard, served faithfully, and lived with quiet strength and honor.
He is survived by his grand children, Shannon Borel, and Shane Borel; nieces and nephews, Richard Hogden, Joyce Bishop and husband Ronnie, Marc Hogden, Randall Morris, Patty James and husband Mike, Nelson “Shorty Hogden, Sr., Robert Smith, Jr., and Nelson Wayne Hogden, Jr.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois Cecile Hogden; his daughters, Karen C. Vasek-Hogden, and Mary Loise Wallace Taylor; his parents, William McKinley and Lydia Hogden; siblings, Roy Q. Hogden, Mack M. Hodgen, and Thelma Beaty; his nieces, Lydia Elizabeth Hogden, and Molly Smith; and nephews, Robert “Smitty” Smith, Sr., and Roy Hogden, Jr.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation was entrusted to Dorman – Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home.
