A former business office secretary for West Orange-Cove ISD is in jail after being indicted on theft charges.
Meagan Michelle Hand, 37, was arrested after being indicted and charged with theft by a public servant. From 2022-25 it is believed Hand took between $150-300K from the district, which is a second degree felony. The Orange County District Attorney’s office said because she was a public servant, it’s bumped up a degree to a first degree felony, a punishment of 5-99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
Her bond was set at $300,000. The case is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
