A fire at a Torrent Oil Company outside Bridge City Monday afternoon sent thick black smoke into the air, but firefighters kept oil storage tanks from exploding.
The fire about 1 p.m. was at the end of Bessie Heights Road near the marsh along the Neches River. Fire departments from Bridge City, Pinehurst, West Orange, Little Cypress and Port Arthur sent equipment and firefighters.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
The area does not have fire hydrants and pumper trucks had to go back and forth to fill up so water could be brought in. The main fire was out in about an hour.
