The Bassmasters Elite professional fishing tournament in Orange has been rescheduled for sometime in November.
Orange County Judge John Gothia made the announcement Thursday on KOGT’s Morning Show during an interview with Gary Stelly.
The tournament on the Sabine River had been scheduled for the last weekend in May, but Bassmasters has postponed events because of the covid 19 pandemic and social distancing rules.
Gothia said Bassmasters Elite at this time will have nine straight weeks of tournaments later in the year. The anglers will be at Lake Fork the weekend before Orange which is now scheduled to be the last tournament of the season.
The judge said other details need to be finalized before everything is set up for the event. A carnival-festival is held in conjunction with the tournament and live entertainers are hired to perform in the evenings.
Neal McCoy, who was the entertainment for the first Bassmasters event in Orange, is scheduled to come back if he can adjust his schedule.
The city of Orange is building a new covered pavilion at the Boat Ramp where the tournament is held. The plan had been to have the pavilion ready for the tournament in May. Gothia said the pavilion should definitely be finished by November.
The Bassmasters Elite schedule for November should be similar to the one that was set for May.
Daily takeoffs will be fromĀ Boat Ramp beginning at 6:15 a.m.
Weigh-ins will be at the Boat Ramp at 3 p.m. for all four days of the tournament.
On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the stage Bassmasters Elite Anglers will hold a clinic to pass along tips, techniques, gear and all things bass fishing.
