The weather cooperated and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office conducted another Cops N Kids Friday at Claiborne West Park. First responders from around the county turned out to meet with kids and their parents to encourage positive relationships between young people with law enforcement and emergency responders.
Lane Mooney said this is his first Cops N Kids since becoming sheriff, but it is not his first rodeo so to speak. “Being the sheriff it is, being a deputy over here working under Huel Fontenot, Mike White, Keith Merritt I’ve attended these things as a deputy, but this is my first one as a sheriff, and I hope we have a real good turnout. We have had to postpone it a couple of times because of the weather, but let me tell you it’s a beautiful day and we’re going to have a great time,” Mooney expressed.
All sorts of emergency vehicles were available for the kids to sit in, and there was even SWAT equipment for them to try on and hold. Souvenirs and toys to re-enforce safety were distributed at booths from the various agencies participating with the Sheriff’s Office during the Cops N Kids.
