It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn “Sissy” Boyles Burris, 81, of Deweyville, Texas, who passed away peacefully June 3, 2026.
Born March 15, 1945 to McKinley Boyles and Lillian Hartley, she lived a vibrant life centered around family and the joy of feeding the people she loved. Sissy was a master in the kitchen, she was known for her legendary banana bread.
She possessed a rare gift for taking simple ingredients and turning them into acts of love, ensuring that no one ever left her home hungry. Beyond her culinary talents, she was also known for her loud singing. Known well by everyone in local bars and at home for singing Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin. Sometimes she sang it for pleasure and other times as torture to make someone play the jukebox or buy her a drink, depending on her mood.
Besides being a homemaker, Sissy also worked several jobs throughout her life including a Louisiana correctional facility, Cottonwood, and Walmart Bakery. She will be missed by many.
Sissy is survived by her son, Andy Dahlquist of DeQuincy, Louisiana; daughters, Carol Renee Perkins of Orange, Texas, and Shonda Lee Simmons of DeQuincy, Louisiana; grandchildren, Dayne, Dru, and Tyler; great grandchildren, Amelia, Jude, and Ciara; sister, Verna Ahlborn and husband Pat of Deweyville, Texas; brother, Ken Boyles and wife Charlesie of Zavala; and a large extended family who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Burris; parents, McKinley Boyles and Lillian Hartley; son, Glen Dahlquist; three brothers, Charles “Moose,” Grover Eugene, and Robert Earl; and her granddaughter Shayna.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration of life at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas. Rev. John Fortenberry will be officiating.
