The Lamar University Cardinals baseball team scored six runs in the top of the second and never looked back in its 17-1 win over California State University, Bakersfield on Friday night at Hardt Field.
A couple of Bridge City Cardinals helped Big Red to victory. Starting pitcher Peyton Havard (left) retired six straight batters to keep the game scoreless heading into the top of the third. And DH Logan Hamm added to the inning with a two-run single to right center.
Orangefield’s Kameryn Henderson also went 1-2 in the game.
On Sunday, Hamm pitched to five batters in the fifth to get the win for LU as they defeated Bakersfield 13-3 in 8 innings to take the series 2-1.
LU has their home opener Tues-Wed against North Dakota State at 6pm.
