Churches across Orange helped boost building-related business in June, according to building permits issued by the city of Orange. Two churches are getting remodelings. One is the FMC Church at 1301 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The church, using A to Z Construction Services, took out a permit for $47,000 worth of work. Apolistic Church of Jesus, 1702 10th Street, received a permit for $47,784 worth of work.
More houses continue to be constructed in the Cypresswood subdivision off Highway 87 South. Wheat Homes had a permit to build a $198,175 house on Cypresswood Drive.
Two businesses off Simmons Drive are getting spruced up. Oscar LeBlanc, owner of Bluebird Fish Camp, 102 Farragut, has a permit to build a $7,000 covered deck to his restaurant-fish camp. Marva Paul, owner of DJ’s Barbecue, 2200 Simmons Drive, took out a $15,000 permit to replace siding.
In other commercial permits, Robert Wharton had a permit to repair Tropical Storm Harvey Damage at 1301 Green Avenue. The city council has extended the policy of not charging fees for permits to repair storm damage, so no value was listed. Wharton also received a permit for $35,000 worth of repairs to 1409 Green Avenue.
Sixteen residential permits for Harvey repair were issued and in June, only one permit for a travel trailer because of Harvey was issued. Three permits for house leveling were issued and one $22,000 non-Harvey remodeling.
