The Orangefield Bobcats got away with a tough shooting night in their semifinal game against London. Unfortunately that didn’t happen Friday morning in San Antonio when they faced Dallas Madison for the 3AD1 title. The Trojans, making their 13th appearance at State, won the game 70-59.
Madison went on a 16-0 run in the second quarter while the Bobcats were a surprising 0-5 from three in the first half as they trailed 32-19 at intermission.
The third quarter saw Madison maintain their lead despite some flashes from the Bobcat offense that saw them briefly cut the lead to 10. Mistakes started to build against Orangefield (35-4) as the Trojans scored 32 of their points off of Bobcat turnovers.
Madison (26-12) would build a 19 point lead in the fourth quarter before the Bobcats would give an impressive Bobcat crowd a reason to cheer as they cut the lead again to 10 (63-53) with two minutes left. But that’s as close as they would get.
There were a few interesting calls or no-calls in the game that seemed to work more against the Bobcats. Three players, Kyran Morrow, Rylan Agerton and Jaden Scales, all fouled out as OF was called for 27 fouls to 17 for Madison.
Senior Carson Willis had a solid game with 21 points and five rebounds. Scales finished with 13 and leaves as Orangefield’s all-time leading scorer. Agerton had 10 and six rebounds, and Jaxon Agerton had 6 points and a team high 7 rebounds. Griffin Thomas had 4, Jack Luker 3 and Morrow 2.
“These guys left their mark and I’m so proud of them. After our loss in the first round last year they immediately started working on this season so that wouldn’t happen again. They’ve done everything we’ve asked of them to get to this point,” Head Coach Bryan Whitmire said. “And I want to thank the community and the district for their support and the surrounding communities, we’ve received a lot of support from all over the 409.”
