
Barbara Nell Peveto passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 90. She was born on April 19, 1936, in Overton, Texas, to R. F. “Sporty” Hendrix and Carrie Mae Hendrix.
To honor Barbara, visitation for the family will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2026. General visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11 a.m. at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Wilkinson Cemetary.
Barbara was a devoted Christian for many years and enjoyed taking care of the children in the nursery at First Baptist Church in Mauriceville. She was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and any given Sunday, you could hear her cheering them on or coaching them from her living room. She also enjoyed her casino visits, cards, and domino games. She won many games of pinochle, 42, and straight dominoes and was a fierce competitor. One claim to fame was being the 42 champions at the family Easter reunion with her partner and sister Ruby Fleet. Barbara also loved sitting on the back porch of Ruby’s house getting to enjoy time spent visiting with her family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, R. F. “Sporty” Hendrix and Carrie Mae Hendrix; her husband, Herbert Marshall Peveto; five brothers; two sisters; and her children, Robbie Peveto and Reta Peveto.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Carolyn O’Quinn, Cathy Beecher and husband Robert, and Denise Bussell and husband Keenan; her sons and their wives, Carl and Ellen Cherry, Herbie and Angella Peveto, David and Cheryl Cherry, and Tommy and Debbie Peveto. Barbara also leaves behind her sisters, Ruby Fleet and Wilma Williams, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends who will deeply miss her.
Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Cherry, Andrew Hunt, Toby Fuss, Michael Cherry, Scotty Cherry, Troy Rodriguez, Brett Burrows, and Jeremy Langley.
