According to West Orange Fire Department personnel, firefighters were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Holly Street and Bonnie Street for an auto-pedestrian accident.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a teenage male who had been struck by an SUV while riding a scooter. The teenager suffered serious injuries to his leg and was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. Firefighters reported a possible compound fracture involving the tibia and fibula. Another youth riding a bike with the teenager was reportedly not injured.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
According to a witness, the teenager was riding the scooter and crossed in front of the SUV as the vehicle was making a turn. The witness said the SUV struck the teenager near the curb.
The accident remains under investigation.
