Annie Mae Lewis Angelle was born May 3, 1968, in Houston, Texas, to the late Alvin and Rita Lewis. She moved to Orange, Texas with her mother at 13 and never left it became home, and the place she built her life around family. She was a 1987 graduate of West Orange Stark High School. She was a beloved cook at Waffle House for over 20 years. There she met a host of lifelong friends.
Annie Mae was an independent strong woman, a true free spirit who lived and enjoyed life every day. Her beautiful smile and spirit lit up any room she was in. She was a real one through and through, never afraid to speak her mind and always ready to talk her sh** when the moment called for it, lol. Her love showed up in everything she cooked, and her doors was always open, she welcomed everyone like family. She lit up over a good game night, whether it was dominoes, Monopoly, or card games with the people she loved. And when the music came on, she was in her element zydecoing across the floor and losing herself in her blues.
Annie was a fighter. Life threw a lot at her, and she met it head-on, staying strong for herself and everyone she loved.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Rita Eaglin; her parents, Alvin and Rita Lewis; and her husband, Steve Angelle Sr.
She’s survived by her children, Kimberly Angelle, Steve Angelle Jr., and Joseph Angelle (Salina), her seven grandchildren, and her siblings Dorothy Richards (Gerald), Eyvonne Lewis, and Calvin Lewis (Latarsha), along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her.
Annie will be missed more than words can say. But the love she gave and the memories she made are still here, carried on by the family she built.
Funeral services for Annie Mae Lewis-Angelle will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 612 N. 3rd Street, Orange, Texas 77630.
