Violet Jewel Trammell peacefully passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 5, 1934, to Sadie and Jules Carpenter, Violet was the fifth of sixteen children. She grew up in Orange and attended Stark High School. Her future husband, Howard Trammell, first saw her at the Green Light Cafe where she worked as a car hop. Their meeting marked the beginning of a remarkable 75-year love story and marriage.
Violet and Howard were married in 1951 and eventually settled in Lumberton, Texas, where they attended the First Baptist Church of Loeb. She was an accomplished seamstress and was particularly fond of making clothes for her daughter. As a loving wife and mother of three, she adored all her children but her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her heart.
Violet worked for several years and found joy in retail sales. She was an avid bowler, winning several trophies. Later in life, she relished the opportunity to stay home with Howard after his retirement. Despite her petite stature, she was mighty in her love for her family. Violet’s legacy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Violet was preceded in death by her beloved son, Guy Howard Trammell; her grandson, Aaron Campbell; her parents, Sadie and Jules Carpenter; her brothers, Sam, RD, Jimmy, Larry, Ray, Penny, Johnny, Jaycee, and Eddie Carpenter; and her sisters, Betty Hitchcock, Gerry McDaniel, June Jaindl, Dolly Carpenter, and Cupal Morgan.
Violet is survived by her loving husband, Howard Trammell; sister, Joy Bergeron; daughter, Mary Alice Campbell and her husband Lloyd; son, Mark Trammell and his wife, Kare; grandsons, Tommy and Ricky and their mother, Gina Trammell; granddaughters, Shelley Meyers, Tracey Lulue, Lesley Trammell, and Adina Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jesse Meyers, Ashlyn Lulue, and Levi Campbell.
A private family memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
