Texas A&M University will honor former head football coach and Stark High graduate R.C. Slocum with a bronze statue outside Kyle Field.
The statue will be unveiled at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, ahead of the Aggies’ home opener against Missouri State. It will be located near Entry 5 on the north end of the stadium.
Slocum, 81, coached the Aggies for 14 seasons and remains the winningest coach in program history with 123 victories. He never had a losing season and led A&M to four conference championships.
Slocum helped establish the Aggies’ “Wrecking Crew” defense and went 44-6-2 in Southwest Conference games.
He is a three-time SWC Coach of the Year and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
Slocum will be the first Texas A&M head football coach to receive a statue at Kyle Field. Steven Whyte is the sculptor.
