Firefighters from Orange County, Port Arthur and the Forestry Service were all called in to a wind-fueled grass fire near Bridge City.
The call came in from Lakeshore Farm Road which comes off East Roundbunch near the swing bridge. When firefighters arrived they estimated the fire had covered 50 acres. By the time they got the fire under control they reported 150 acres had burned. They were able to keep the fire off of any buildings in the area.
Bridge City Fire said although Orange County is not currently under a burn ban, dry conditions and shifting winds continue to increase wildfire risk. If you plan to burn outdoors, please take the following precautions:
• Keep a water hose or extinguisher within reach.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Monitor wind speed and direction closely.
• Check local weather conditions before burning.
