The Flying J Truck Stop at the corner of I-10 and Hwy. 62 in Orange has been building some new pumps. Well sort of.
They will be charging stations for electric vehicles, something EV owners have been looking for in the area. “If they want us to drive’em we need more places to charge’em,” said a patron leaving the restaurant as we were taking the photo.
The Pilot/Flying J company has partnered with GM to place some 2000 charging stalls at 500 of the truck stops from coast to coast. GM’s charging brand is called Ultium Charge 360. The high power fast chargers are capable of offering up to 350 kW1. GM has published a statement that the the automaker’s goal is to produce only zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
A completion date for the new charging station has not been announced but it’s expected to open in 2023.
