Chris Sowell, lifelong resident of precinct 2 and President of the Mauriceville Heritage Association Board, announced his candidacy for the Orange County precinct 2 commissioner’s seat on November 11th at Commissioner’s Court.
Chris has raised his family here and has spent many years serving the community through his involvement on the OYBS Board, serving as vice president, and the Mauriceville Heritage Association, serving as president for the last 3 years. Volunteering on the MHA Executive board has uniquely prepared him for a commissioner’s seat in that he has not only assisted logistically with Precinct 2 resident’s needs but he has also been an active participant. “Chris Sowell never minds rolling up his sleeves and getting to work with the residents whether it is delivering meals to Senior Citizens in our area during the annual Senior Citizens Supper or endless hours handing out supplies after a major disaster,” explained Owen Burton, “He truly embodies the core values of our community and would be an asset to Commissioner’s Court and Precinct 2.” Nelda Burton commented, “His diligent stewardship of the Mauriceville Heritage Association through multiple area disasters and the Covid-19 Pandemic exemplifies his abilities as a proven leader. His leadership has made that organization a very effective nonprofit in Orange County that supports residents with disaster assistance to scholarships for our youth.”
“Kolbie and Kyleigh have greatly benefited from growing up in such a wonderful community. We love living in this area, and I love raising my children here,” Sowell, the 40+ plus year Mauriceville resident said. “I have considered running for commissioner for several years, and I believe I can make a positive impact. I have spent majority of my life cultivating friendships with key figures at Orange County Drainage District, TxDot, and several other agencies to assist in correcting issues facing precinct 2.”
“There are pressing concerns that are a priority to the residents of precinct 2, such as drainage troubles and protecting our quality of life and conservative values. I hear and understand these worries,” Sowell said. “I also understand the need for stable economic growth and ensuring that tax money is spent efficiently county wide.”
“I hope precinct 2 residents feel welcomed to visit with me about the issues and needs facing our area,” Sowell said. “Having lived, worked, and raised my family in this part of the county, I have a distinct understanding of what our community needs, and I have an immense desire to see precinct 2 and the county as a whole flourish. My life experiences and time spent living in this community have prepared me for this job and precinct 2 has my complete dedication.”
