The Running Lady Mustangs are on to round 3 in the UIL Girls Basketball Regional Quarterfinals. They came out where they left off in the Livingston game and that is in their opponent’s face. This was obvious as they forced 43 turnovers led by Sophomore Naudia Watson’s 11 steals. Watson would spark the Mustangs with two 3 pointers in the first half to go along with her smothering defense to finish with a career high 16 points. Marlandria Hebert and B’Jne’ Arvie would both continue to be walking double doubles with Hebert scoring 16 points/15 rebound and Arvie put in a game high 19 points/12 rebounds. These two owned the paint and Kashmere tried every defense they had to try and stop them but nothing seemed to work with the 1-2 punch.
Guards Keshaunia Winbush, Aniah Henderson, and Gabby Tims were all over the place causing chaos for the Kashmere guards with each having 7 steals. Henderson would also get hot from all over the court scoring 18 points with Keshaunia Winbush scoring 10 points along with 8 assists. Coach Wilson said “it was a total team effort and they girls played for each other”. The Lady Mustangs will face district foe Hardin Jefferson in the Regional Quarterfinals.
