Invista in Orange is laying off 75 or more employees and shutting down the adipic acid manufacturing unit. Adipic acid is a precursor to making nylon. The local Invista plant was part of the original DuPont plant in Orange. DuPont sold its fibers branch to Koch Industries in 2003.
The plant in Orange reports more than 600 employees and contractors work at the facility, but the company does not specify how many are full-time employees of Invista. The company has started notifying the impacted employees as part of the 60-days notice period.
The Victoria Invista plant announced less than three weeks layoffs at that plant of 3 percent of the workforce, according to the Victoria Advocate.
Invista’s letter to employees says people who lose their jobs will be provided with career assistance and may qualify for a severance package.
