Orange police investigated two accidents Thursday morning when thick fog blanketed the area. Another collision happened in the evening during busy 16th Street traffic. No serious injuries were reported in any of the crashes.
About 7 a.m., police went to the 8000 block of Highway 62 at Blacksher Crossing after a Lexus ran off the road, across and ditch and ended in a heavy brush line. Officer M.T. Roush reported that the driver, 59-year-old Terry Sonnier of Orange, was traveling northwest. Sonnier told the officer that another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction pulled into his lane and he turned sharply to avoid a collision. Officer Roush said Sonnier had minor injuries and was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room.
At 7:35 a.m., a pickup truck hit the rear-end of an SUV with a 30-year-old woman and children ages 2 and 4. The accident was on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Highway 87 North.
Officer Leslie Lovelace reported 43-year-old Michael J. Fuselier of Orange was driving a Chevolet Silverado pickup truck eastbound. A Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 30-year-old Elizabeth A. Lindley of Orange was stopped at the traffic light. The pickup truck ran into the rear of the SUV. Lovelace reported the pickup driver was given a ticket for failure to control speed.
Lindley and the 4-year-old were taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency room with minor injuries.
Then at 5:50 Thursday evening, a pickup truck hit the back of an SUV that was in the turning lane of the 2400 block of 16th Street at Church Street. Officer M.C. Bernard reported that 18-year-old Destinee Ray McDonnold of Orange was driving a GMC Sierra pickup in the inside northbound lane. A Chevrolet Traverse driven by 51-year-old Melanie Davidson of Orange, who had an 8-year-old passenger, was turning left off of the northbound traffic. The pickup hit the back of the SUV.
Officer Bernard said that McDonnald and her passenger, 25-year-old Deron Villery-Griffin, were taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
Davidson was taken by Acadian to a local hospital. The 8-year-old was not injured. Officer Bernard classified all the injuries as minor.
